My newest publication, from the minds of Team Fluency, is out now at Communication Research! We found that including foreign language terms (or code-mixing) in a narrative inhibits processing fluency and narrative engagement, resulting in poorer character attitudes and out-group evaluations. This work reveals the importance of measuring processing fluency as a narrative engagement mechanism and highlights the importance of ensuring individuals become more familiar with foreign languages in order to increase their fluency evaluations.
